Wrestling Makes Steady Progress

The Molokai wrestling team again dominated their latest Maui Interscholastic League (MIL) meet at Maui High last weekend, with three girls and three boys winning first place in their weight classes.

Paul Valdez (125A lbs), Stanley Kamalii (135B) and Jordan Hao (285) won their individual matches, and Lady Farmers Mikayla Pico (98), Rizpah Torres-Umi (120) and Charisse Manley (130) earned first in their matches.

Other Molokai placers at last Saturday’s tournament:
Pierce Kaulia Dela Cruz (108A) third place; Jordan Gorospe (120B) second place; Kailen Inouye (130A) second place; Noah Caparida (130B) fourth place; Simon Blair (135A) fourth place; Jimmy Naki (135B) fifth place;  Julian-Daniel Bicoy (145A) fourth place; Charles Kamelamela (189A) third place; Kilo Kaawa-Gonzales (189A) fifth place; Solomon Maliu (189C) third place; Daylen Spencer-Basa (215) second place; and Roycee Calairo (215) third place (3rd).
Girls: Tiandra Negrillo-Magsayo (103) fourth place; Michal Torres-Umi (114A) fourth place; Keila Tanner (114B) second place; Kaulana Rose Akaka (125) second place; and Louisa Torres-Umi (140) second place.

Coaches were unavailable for comment.

Next weekend is the takedown tournament at Lahainaluna, on Jan.29.
