The Boys Volleyball team hosted the Maui Interscholastic League Championships at the Barn last weekend for the first time since 2016. Molokai won Thursday’s game against Lanai 3-0 — 25-15, 25-15, 25-16 — then fell to Seabury 3-0 in a close championship Friday night, 25-22, 25-22, 25-18.

“You know, it’s not quite the ending we wanted but the MIL will be very well represented by Seabury [at states],” said Head Coach Hale Domingo. “We had a game plan from the start but when you fall behind from the start, the game plan goes out the door. We adjusted but Seabury was right on it.”

After playing each other four games in a row at the beginning of the season, Molokai knew what they were up against with Seabury in the final game. The two teams were evenly matched throughout the season, splitting wins in the first two tournaments, and both going into MILs with 6-2 records.

“We all knew that the team with less errors would win this tournament,” said Domingo. “We had a hard time holding on to momentum when we had it, but the boys never gave up.

“Hosting was fun because when you have a great team to put it together it becomes easy for the teams just to come and battle, so thank you Lee [DeRouin, athletic director] and his team for getting everything ready for the teams,” said Domingo.

He wished Seabury good luck at states, and looked to the future.

“For our team, there’s always next year, and for my three seniors, it was a hell of a ride and I wish you all the luck in your next chapter in your life, we will always be here for you,” said Domingo.
