Volleyball Finishes Near Perfect Regular Season

The Boys Volleyball team finished it regular season with two wins on the road last weekend at Pedro Dela Cruz Gym at Lanai City for an 11-1 season record. On Friday the Farmers beat the Pine Lads (0-12) in three sets 25-12, 25-18 and 25-22. On Saturday, it was another win for the Farmers in the last game of the season 25-11, 25-13 and 25-18.

Head Coach Hale Domingo and his team will now get ready for this weekend’s Maui Interscholastic League DII Boys Volleyball Tournament at Hana. Molokai is the number one seed and will play number four Lanai in the semifinals. Seabury is the second seed and will play third seed Hana in the other semifinal.

Domingo was happy with his team’s play Friday.

“This is the most lively I have ever seen these bunch of boys,” he said. “They all played and had a great time. I mixed up our line up every set to see how the team chemistry would work and it all came out A-OK.”

Senior Michael Sterner said he is looking forward to the upcoming championship.

“We just came here to take care of business and to come home with the win which we did,” he said. “I am just excited about how we closed the season as regular season champs and now it’s time to step it up for the MIL’s this coming week at Hana.”

Molokai was the number seed last year at States and made it to the championship game. This veteran team now heads to the mil tournament playing well and domingo knows they will be ready, “’Be my best me’ — that’s all we can do,” he said. “Ready or not, here we come and we will finish the season with great vibes and looking for the playoffs.”

Senior Kawena Augustiro expects a lot of hard work getting ready for states, and felt his team played well on Lanai.

“This weekend’s game was really an awesome learning experience for us because we got to see how well our teamwork would be with the different line ups that we were put in,” he said. “Lanai had great defense but I’m glad our team pulled through and won in three sets. It was and overall a great game.”

The state Division II Volleyball Championships will be held May 4-6 at Hawaii Baptist and Kalani high schools and the Blaisdell Center Arena.
