Upcoming Children’s Theater Production

Hokulani Children’s Theater News Release

The Hokulani Children’s Theatre of Molokai is thrilled to bring another community production to the island, thanks to the unwavering support of our community. Our mission to nurture and showcase the performing arts among Molokai’s keiki has been met with enthusiasm and generosity, allowing us to continue this vital work.

This season, we are proud to present “Jane and the Giant Peach,” featuring 11 talented student actors who will take the stage on Sept. 27 and 28 for two special performances. These performances will serve not only as a showcase of our children’s hard work and dedication but also as a stepping stone for their first off-island performance on Lanai in October.

The success of our productions is a collective effort, and one of the key figures behind the scenes is the immensely talented Carolyn Havens. Carolyn has been with us from the beginning, lending her exceptional skills as a costume designer and seamstress to bring our characters to life. Her creativity knows no bounds, as she transforms donated items from the Molokai Occupational Center, Grace Episcopal Church, and Aunty Jan’s House of Blessing into stunning costumes that capture the essence of our stories.

Carolyn is one of the many kupuna who generously offer their time, talent, and heart to support our island’s keiki. Beyond her work with fabrics and threads, she is a gifted artist and writer, always finding new ways to inspire and encourage the children to explore their own creativity. Her contributions have been invaluable to our productions, and her passion for the arts shines through in every stitch and design.

As we prepare for our upcoming performances, we invite the community to join us in celebrating our young actors and the incredible team that makes it all possible. We are asking for donations at the door to help support our students as they embark on their first off-island performance and attend a three-day performing arts camp with the Lanai Academy of Performing Arts. This October camp will provide a unique opportunity for our keiki to hone their skills, collaborate with peers from Lanai, and engage in a joint camp adventure that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact.

The Hokulani Children’s Theatre of Molokai is more than just a theater; it is a community, a family, and a place where the arts come alive through the dedication and love of people like Carolyn Havens. We look forward to seeing you at the performances and thank you for your continued support in helping our children reach new heights in their artistic journeys.
