Upcoming 100K Bike Race in January
Kualapu`u School News Release
Kualapu`u School invites all local cycling enthusiasts to start getting ready for this year’s Molokai Metric events. Two races are planned this year. In addition to the 100K ride, race organizers are staging an Uphill Prelim on the Kalae Highway. The Uphill Prelim is five miles in length climbing from Holomua Junction to Kalaupapa Lookout. This event opens the Martin Luther King weekend of activities. The Uphill race begins Saturday, Jan. 16 at 4 p.m. from the Surf Shack. Afterwards, riders will be taking a group ride to preview a 12-mile section of the following day’s Molokai Metric course.
The main event, the 100K ride starts at sunrise (7 a.m.) on Sunday, Jan. 17. The 100K course begins and ends at Hotel Molokai. There are two loops to the course: one to the east and one to the west. The eastern loop extends from the Hotel to Morris Point and back — a distance of 38 miles. The western loop extends from the Hotel to Coffee’s around the Airport and returns on the Kamehameha Highway back to the Hotel — a distance of 24 miles.
The event website is now open. For more information, course maps, etc. visit molokaimetric.weebly.com. Early registration is available on the website via the Eventbrite link. Registration fees before Jan. 1 are $100 for the 100K, $25 for the Uphill Challenge, and $125 for both events. After Jan. 1, a late fee of $25 will be added. Late registration fees will be $125 for the 100K, $50 for the Uphill, and $150 for both events. Entry fees cover event insurance, race support, a post-race catered lunch, awards, and a newly designed event T-shirt. All proceeds from the Molokai Metric bike events go to support the Pu`olo Program — Kualapu`u School’s Hawaiian Values, Health, and Fitness campaign.
