U-Haul Rentals Available at Rawlins Chevron
Need a truck or van for the weekend? Rawlins Chevron has you covered. They’re now offering U-Haul rentals, in a partnership with the national company. Service station owner Shirley Rawlins said U-Haul approached her about offering the rentals, and the venture has been successful so far.
“It was not in the plan, but we decided to give it a try,” said Rawlins. “It’s moving pretty good now.”
Currently, Chevron has one truck and one van for rent, which customers must reserve online through U-Haul’s website, said Rawlins. She called the rates “very reasonable,” with the truck renting for about $20 per day.
Rawlins said the service, which began in August, is currently operating on a trial basis, but she added that U-Haul is considering adding trailers, which could be used for camping or moving.
“U-Haul is proud to be partnering with a quality independent business such as Rawlins Chevron Service,” said William Hardy, president of U-Haul Company of Hawaii, in a press release officially announcing the partnership last week. “Shirley is a great example of the type of successful business relationship U-Haul has established in order to build and maintain a strong network of more than 15,000 independent dealers across North America.”
Rawlins said the rentals have been popular with visitors and locals alike. Visitors coming onto the island via the ferry find the central location convenient, she explained, and residents also use the vehicles for visiting family or if they need an extra car for the weekend. Rawlins said for events such as the annual canoe races, rental vehicles can be scarce on Molokai, especially with local car rental company Island Kine’s closure last month. The U-Haul rentals offer another option to fill Molokai’s need.
