Track, Judo, Softball Prep for States
Judo
The Molokai Famer Judo team participated in the MIL Championship last weekend at Baldwin High School on Maui. The Farmers will be sending four student athletes to the State championships on Oahu this weekend. For the boys, Ikua Deponte was champion in the 161 pound division. For the girls, Maria Angst was the champion at 98 pounds, Cameryn Kahalewai was champion at 161 pounds and Payton Kaalekahi was second place at 129 pounds.
The state Judo Championships will be on Saturday, May 6 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Track
The Molokai Farmers Boys and Girls Track and Field teams completed in the MIL championships last weekend at the War Memorial Stadium in Kahului. Head Coach Micah Buchanan and his athletes endured two days of heavy rain during the championships but the Farmers were represented well. One student athlete will be traveling to the state Track and Field Championships on May 12-13 at Keaau High School on Hawaii Island.
Senior Preston Pascua-Kahookano qualified in second place in the boy’s discus with a throw of 137 feet 9 inches. Senior Sehja Pedro did not qualify, though came close with her second place discus throw of 95 feet 7 inches and third in the girl’s shot put with a throw of 31 feet 11 inches.
Softball
The Lady Farmer Softball team, who clinched the MIL Championship a week ago, has been practicing hard under Head Coach Kawehi Horner and will travel to Oahu this weekend for the State Championships. Molokai has an 8-0 record and received a number four seed and a bye in this year’s State Championships on Oahu this weekend.
Molokai will play at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday at McKinley High School against the winner of St. Francis and Kalani.
