The Great Big Giveaway

Last Saturday, good Samaritans residents from Oahu distributed three vans full of free, brand new clothes, baby equipment, toys, food, bikes, coolers and more to Molokai residents. Inspired to share with the island, the group of volunteers, pictured here — not associated with any church or organization — came together to collect donations and raise funds to ship 52 boxes of items to Molokai with the goal of spreading the aloha spirit of giving.

“It pulled at her heart one day to want to do something for Molokai,” said Molokai’s Lori-Lei Rawlins-Crivello about one of the organizers. Rawlins-Crivello helped the group spread the word about their giveaway event by posting it to Facebook, where it quickly got shared more than 100 times.

The only stipulation of the giveaway, held next to Fish and Dive at the Lunchbox from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., was that items not be resold.
