Temporary Suspension of Services

Venture Physical Therapy News Release

It is with heavy hearts we must share some news regarding our in-home physical therapy services on Molokai. Effective immediately, we find ourselves in the difficult position of temporarily suspending these PT services. We want to express just how meaningful our time treating the incredible individuals of Molokai since 2020 has been, and how deeply we will miss serving this community.

This decision has not been taken lightly and is a direct consequence of various logistical challenges, which have made it increasingly impractical to uphold the high standards of care we have always strived to provide.

Our primary concern revolves around the issues we’ve encountered with transportation, particularly involving Mokulele Airlines. Regrettably, our team has spent an inordinate amount of time at airports, waiting for flights, when we could have been delivering the vital care our patients deserve.

When we initially embarked on our mission to bring physical therapy to the residents of Molokai, flight schedules were more predictable, and the associated costs were manageable. Even with the added complexities brought on by the pandemic, we were able to navigate these challenges effectively.

However, over the past year, the reliability of our transportation has significantly deteriorated, as you may be well aware.  Furthermore, we have had to reallocate some of our staff to aid in the treatment and care in Lahaina. Physical therapists on that side of the island have faced clinic closures, and are presently unable to provide their much-needed support.

Please know that our commitment to the Molokai community remains steadfast. We are actively engaged in the pursuit of a dedicated physical therapist who is willing to become either a full-time or part-time resident on the island. This endeavor aims to ensure a more consistent and reliable provision of care to our homebound patients. Concurrently, we are exploring alternative avenues for securing dependable transportation through private individuals who frequently travel between the islands. Throughout this challenging period, we plan to continue serving our patients to the best of our ability via telehealth appointments.

Additionally, we will conduct occasional in-home evaluations, followed by telehealth-based follow-ups. We regard this suspension as a temporary measure while we diligently work toward a more sustainable, long-term solution.

We extend our deepest gratitude for your unwavering support and understanding during this trying time. Our dedication to the well-being of the Molokai community remains resolute, and we are determined to resume our services as soon as we can establish a more suitable transportation and staffing arrangement.
