Student Tackles Ocean Pollution

By Dyson Chee

Aloha! My name is Dyson Chee and I am a 17-year-old high-schooler living on Oahu who is passionate about protecting our beaches. In October, 2018, I started a project, Project O.C.E.A.N., to tackle this issue of plastic pollution. As a part of Project O.C.E.A.N., I do presentations as schools and community events about plastic pollution and the solutions, but all of my presentations had been on Oahu Island until recently. On April 26, I headed over to Molokai to do presentations here, including presentations at Molokai High School, for the first time ever. I really did not know what to expect when I touched down on Molokai, but I know that I could not have asked for more than what I got. The students at Molokai High School were interactive and very receptive to not only plastic pollution as an issue, but also to some of its solutions. I absolutely loved my time there! I feel so blessed to have been able to visit Molokai and share something that I am passionate about, and hope to return to Molokai sometime soon!
