Strings Concert Showcases Community Talent

MAC News Release

An instrumental concert at Hotel Molokai on Dec. 14 will put community musical dedication on display. Mr. Bob Underwood, a teacher at Kaunakakai Elementary school, is known for his patience and sense of humor. He also has a great love for music, which he shares by teaching strings and woodwinds through the Molokai Instrumental Music Education (MIME) Program, a program he created which is sponsored by the Molokai Arts Center (MAC).

Mr. Underwood’s classes are open to all ages and are free to the community. The MIME Program also provides instruments on loan, which ensures that music education is available to everyone. Mr. Underwood’s classes perform at least two concerts every year, at the end of the spring and fall semesters, and this year’s fall concert is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 6 pm.

This is not only a performance learning opportunity for the students in his classes, but also a way for the community to see and hear what’s happening with music education on Molokai. The concert is open to the public and free of charge.
