Soup R Bowl Brings Chamber Music

MAC News Release

The Molokai Arts Center (MAC) is bringing classical chamber music to Molokai for their largest fundraiser of the year, the Soup ‘R Bowl on March 4. Chamber Music Hawaii on Oahu is providing a wind trio for the event, which will focus on Hawaiian Mele, as well as works by Mozart, Ibert, Beethoven and Bach.

Chamber Music Hawaii was founded in 1982, and is Hawaii’s oldest presenter of local, professional chamber musicians. According to their website, “The mission of Chamber Music Hawaii is to enrich Hawaii cultural life and promote appreciation and understanding of chamber music by presenting resident professional chamber music ensembles in concerts for the public and educational outreach programs for schools and under-served communities.” Chamber Music Hawaii is no stranger to Molokai, having provided such acts as the Galliard String Quartet and the Spring Wind Quintet in years past.

The Soup ‘R Bowl will be on Saturday, March 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Molokai Community Health Center. Tickets for the Soup ‘R Bowl and to see the wind trio are available for purchase at Take’s Variety Store, Kalele Bookstore, Molokai Acupuncture and Massage and Mana`e Goods & Grindz. Admission is $30 for the general public, $24 for MAC members and $20 for keiki under 12. All proceeds go to supporting operations and programs at the Molokai Arts Center. A soup dinner will be provided, including salad and dessert, and everyone will get a handmade ceramic bowl to keep. Also on the bill are musician Chazz Alley, Tere’s Tamar`i and Company, and Raymond Hiro and Keaka.
