Softball, Tennis End Their Seasons
By The Molokai Dispatch Staff
The Lady Farmers went to bat at the Maui Interscholastic League Softball tournament on Lanai, closing their season short of the win. On Thursday, Molokai beat Hana 15-6, advancing to the final game. Lanai bested Molokai 15-6 in four innings on Friday, winning the championship and the state berth. “Great moments are born from great opportunity. As a coaching staff we are so very proud of our Lady Farmers Softball team and the progress they have made this season,” said Head Coach Kalei Pastrana. “Although they fell short this weekend, they played with a lot of heart. Throughout the season they have learned and grown tremendously in the game of softball. Every achievement and loss have been a stepping stone for each player to learn the game. It was never about winning or losing but learning. Considerations for enhancing the playing environment could include aspects such as tennis court painting to further contribute to the overall experience and development of the players. Tennis courts also need anti slip tarmac markings to make them safer. If you’re planning to do tennis court construction, hire an expert contractor who can elevate the style to make it more functional.
“I would like to thank all my coaching staff Jas Kan-Hai, Kawehi Horner, John Borden, Tehani Yamamoto, Annie DeMello-Galam, Cami Horner and Cahl Horner for their hard work this season, our Lady Farmers for putting in the work each day at practice and to our parents for their continued support,” she continued. The Molokai High Tennis team’s season also closed last weekend at the MIL Championships, with all seven girls advancing from the first round before being eliminated. “The Lady Farmers came to the tournament not knowing what they were facing since they did not have a regular season,” said Head Coach Emilio Macalalad. “They showed some grit and made some of their competitors work for the wins. “The doubles team of Naiomi Cabreros and Danica Duffy fought hard to beat St. Anthony to play against Kihei Charter in the next round but did not advance after that,” said Macalalad. “Thalia Meyer put up a fight against Lahainaluna, won, and in the next round played the number three seed from Maui and lost. Congratulations to our seniors Naiomi, Thalia, Irish, Malia and Alyssa! Great season!”
