The Molokai Lady Farmer Softball team got their 2018 season off to a great start with two road wins at Hana (0-2) last weekend. Molokai only needed three innings to win on Friday 18-3. Tehani Yamamoto got the win by pitching a one-hitter and Wehi Pastrana, Sydney Rawlins, Cahl Horner, Cami Horner and Kaydence Oswald all hit home runs. On Saturday, the Lady Farmers won 11-1 in five innings to start their season 2-0. Sydney Rawlins was 2-3 with two runs batted in, Cahl Horner also 2-3 with two RBIs, Yamamoto also 2-3 with two RBIs and Camille Ledesma 2-2 with a triple and an RBI.

Head Coach Kawehi Horner was happy to get the season underway.

“We had a great weekend and our girls expressed that they felt good,” he said. “We played well and delivered our bunts, our base running was good and so was our fielding.”

Cami Horner and Talan Garces combined on pitching a two-hitter on Saturday and with Yamamoto’s performance on Friday, Horner liked what he saw.

“Tehani did an awesome job, only one hit off of her and Cami pitches great and Talan finished strong too,” he said. “They all showed leadership on the mound and controlled the defense by calling plays and informing the team where the runners were. I am very happy with their performance.”

Molokai will host Lanai (0-0) this weekend at the MHS field. This year’s MIL DII Softball only has three teams: Molokai, Lanai and Hana.
