The Girls Softball team completed an undefeated season last weekend on Maui. The Lady Farmers (6-0) beat Seabury (1-5) twice at Eddie Tam Field in Makawao, 13-1 on Friday and 13-3 on Saturday. Molokai will now travel to Maui this weekend for the Maui Interscholastic League Division II Girls Softball Tournament at Patsy Mink Field in Kahului. The Lady Farmers are the number one seed and will play number four Hana in the semifinals at 2 p.m. on Friday. The DII final is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday.

“It is always fun getting that [win] and the girls have again done well and are playing with passion and love,” said Head Coach Kawehi Horner. “Our team has become close, and they lean on each other with trust. I think that ingredient there is important to have a happy well rounded squad. They depend on each other, they help each other and with love they get after each other all with the same result of positivity. Their base running has been a great strength of theirs so far but they still have some ways left to grow.”

Senior Brooke Keliihoomalu said the team has played well and is looking forward to the tournament.

“It feels great to have clinched season champ title and remain undefeated throughout the regular season,” she said. “Now we’re working towards the MIL title and the state tournament. I believe that if we all continue to put in our best efforts and keep a positive mindset, we can accomplish great things.”

“Mahalo to all the Lady Farmer supporters and especially my awesome coaching staff and their families,” said Horner. “Together we all contribute ‘shakarific’ things.”

The State Softball Championships will be May 3-6 at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium and Mckinley High School.
