The Molokai High Track and Field team traveled to Maui to compete in the season’s first meet last weekend.

Top finishers included Jonah Sahagun who finished seventh in the 200 meter run and eighth in the long jump, and Namaka Ross, who came in fifth in the 800 meter and eighth in the 1500 meter runs.

Matthew McGuire and Jericho Adolpho also competed in running events, while Chevy Bush, Shazam Bush, Marcus Hubbard and Akone Manaba competed in throwing events.

“Team captain Jonah Sahagun led the team in warmups as they prepared for their very first two-day track and field meet,” said Head Coach Kabbie Bicoy-Juario. “We have all first-time competitors this year and we had a few making it to finals and a few fell short either by inches or just seconds. They all got a taste of the competition and know what we must work on next week.  Runners ran their hearts out while throwers threw with everything they got.”

This season’s assistant coaches are Micah Buchanan, Isiah Bicoy and Dave Kannewurf.

“Good job Farmers!” continued Bicoy-Juario. “All the coaches are very proud of the outcome of this meet and they made Molokai proud.  Mahalo to Dave Kannewurf for putting in field time with us.”
