A Molokai member of the Maui Fire Department was among those to receive promotions recently announced by Fire Chief Bradford Ventura. 

Henry “Hanale” Lindo of Molokai has been promoted to Assistant Chief of Operations. Other promotions are Jeffrey Giesea has been promoted to Assistant Chief of Support Services; Lee Theros, Shawn Rogers and Alexander Parker have been promoted to Battalion Chief; Darrin Almeida, Garren Oura, Beau Gaddis, Kanoa Shannon, Anthony Twarowski, Matthew Akiona, Joseph “Ikaika” Blackburn, and John Devlin have been promoted to Fire Captain; Daniel Laferriere and Steven Graver have been promoted to Fire Fighter III. …

Action Needed on Molokai Ranch

Molokai Ranch has been up for sale for years now. All efforts to buy have failed thus far.

The price is too high at $260 million.

Water has been a major problem, both their mountain stream dams, reservoirs and 25 miles of pipes. They have no permit to operate their drinking water at Well 17. The land has serious (criminal) erosion problems that includes a red shoreline after rains that threatens the pristine reefs. The traditional forest has been denuded and is gone.

The ranch, which is one third of our island, is owned by a foreign county in Singapore that is almost impossible to contact.…

Molokai Paintball Club Joins Statewide Event

Molokai’s Paintball Club, led by Fred Aki, joined the Hawaiian Legend 3 held by CPX events at the Maui Paintball field in Olowalu for the third year. Hawaiian Legend is the largest paintball event in Hawaii, with more than 200 players this year. Hawaiian Legends is a Blue versus Red open play scenario based paintball game, where players on either side battle to control a section of the field by hitting a slap stick marked blue or red, running missions, and collect supplies and material to help their team.

Joining the Red team, Molokai brought nine players, playing alongside other teams from the neighbor islands and from other states.…

You may have heard the amusing tale about an elderly woman in New York who, while preparing her will, surprised her pastor with an unconventional request. She expressed her desire for him to celebrate her funeral Mass, opting for cremation with a unique plan for her ashes. Rather than the traditional scattering, she humorously insisted, “I want my ashes to be sprinkled over Walmart. Then I’ll be sure that my daughters will visit me twice a week.” This anecdote brings a smile to our faces, much like the Eternal Urns exquisite collection of cremation urns, memorial lockets, and pendants, which offers meaningful and personalized ways to commemorate loved ones.…

With Makahiki season coming to a close and the island-wide Makahiki games being canceled because of COVID for a second year, Kaunakakai School decided to hold its own competitions to foster the cultural tradition and promote the health and wellness of the games which may be similar to 카지노 커뮤니티. 

Last week, students in each grade competed against classmates in small-scale versions of events like Uma (arm wrestling), Hukihuki (tug of war), Ulu Maika (Hawaiian bowling) and Kukini (running).

COVID Mandates, Cases Drop

As COVID cases have sharply declined in recent weeks, so have Maui County’s mandates surrounding the virus. The state has yet to drop indoor masking and Safe Travels requirements but Maui County lifted its requirement to show proof of vaccination or testing for indoor service at restaurants, bars and gyms as of Feb. 21. Additionally, the county reopened two of its camping sites on Molokai as well as community centers for public events as of March 1. 

Dept. of Health data reports Molokai had five positive COVID cases between Friday, Feb. 18 and Friday, Feb. 25. The previous week logged 14 new cases. …

Na Wahine Race Canceled

Following the cancelation of the men’s Molokai Hoe canoe race in the fall because of COVID uncertainties, announced on Feb. 9, organizers of the women’s Na Wahine O Ke Kai race just announced this year’s wahine event will also be canceled. 

“With the dropping COVID numbers, we were optimistic that the event this year could be conducted for the women who participated in this world championship canoe race,” the race’s board wrote in a Feb. 22 letter. “However, the gracious Molokai community that plays such an important role in this race is still being impacted by numerous issues related to COVID, and our kuleana to them outweighed the decision to move forward with race plans.”…

MIL Titles for Wrestlers

Molokai wrestlers came out on top in the Maui Interscholastic League Championships last weekend, with two Farmers bringing home championship medals and others taking high honors on the mat. 

“We had two champs — Barbara Simon at 112 pounds and Leo Kalipi at 220,” said Head Coach Randy Manley. “We had four runners up: Hezekiah Horner 152, Clarence Horner at 160, Stephanie Gadeza at 155, and Masina Phillips at 168.”

The team had 11 athletes qualify for the upcoming state tournament, with both boys and girls teams taking third place overall at MILs. 

Along with Simon and Kalipi, Austin Kaalekahi at 106 pounds, Mana Kanuha at 138, Kuulei Simon at 127, Elisha Horner at 182 and Heno Kalama at 195 will also be competing at the state level. …

Boys Soccer Digs In With Scrimmage

The Molokai High Boys Soccer team played its first and only game of the season last Friday, a scrimmage against Seabury. 

“Our boys did good but Seabury showed us why they go to states every year!” said Molokai’s Head Coach Greg Lourio. “I’m very proud of them for their first year at a high school level playing against kids that played their whole lives! Most of my boys never been on a whole field before that was professionally lined and with big goals so they did great.”

The scrimmage was an informal way for the team to test their skills and get a taste of real competition on the field for the newly-formed team. …
