Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset News Release

The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset is awarding two $2500 academic scholarships to two graduating seniors who live in West Maui, Hana or Molokai and attend a Maui or Molokai high school. The students should demonstrate superior academic abilities, involvement in school activities and a winning character profile and must be pursuing a field of study that will benefit the environment.

The scholarship highlights the club’s commitment to support the educational goals of local youth.

“Knowledge is power and we are thrilled to help a senior student reach his or her educational goals,” said Erica Gale, Youth Service Chair. “We’re pleased to support the education of two local students who will have the opportunity to continue sustainability efforts on Maui well into the future.”

The academic awards also reflect the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset’s focus on environmental initiatives, a core mission that is realized through sustainability projects such as the installation and maintenance of Rescue Tubes on West Maui Beach Parks and its “Go Green” Third Saturday Recycling event. The Third Saturday Recycling events will resume when the COVID-19 stay-at-home decree is lifted.

The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset presented a 2019 Go for the Green $2500 Scholarship to Evelyn Haase from Molokai High School.

The application deadline is May 1. To receive a scholarship application or to learn more about the award, email Club Secretary Joanne Laird at mamalrd01@gmail.com or call/text her at (808) 757-0981.
