Rotary Club News Release

The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset is awarding two $2500 academic scholarships to two graduating seniors who live in West Maui, Hana or Molokai and attends a Maui or Molokai high school. The students should demonstrate superior academic abilities, involvement in school activities and a winning character profile and must be pursuing a field of study that will benefit the environment.

The scholarship highlights the club’s commitment to support the educational goals of local youth.

“Knowledge is power and we are thrilled to help two graduating senior students reach their educational goals,” said Kelsey Briggs, Youth Service Chair.  “We’re pleased to support the education of two local students who will have the opportunity to continue sustainability efforts on Maui well into the future.”

The academic awards also reflect the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset’s focus on environmental initiatives, a core mission that is realized through sustainability projects.   Such projects include the planting of over 400 fruit-bearing trees around Maui in 2021 and working in conjunction with Grow Some Good to plant fruit bearing trees at local Maui schools.

The application deadline is April 21.  To receive a scholarship application or to learn more about the award, email Youth Service Chair Kelsey Briggs at kelseymbriggs.kb@gmail.comRotary is a leadership organization made up of local business, professional and civic leaders.
