Pine Lads Best Farmers
The Lanai boys’ basketball team topped Molokai twice over the weekend, beating the Farmers 57-38 on Friday and 64-45 on Saturday to end the regular season.
On Friday the Farmers stayed in step with the Pine Lads and were only down 38-37 after three quarters. However, the Pine Lads outscored them 19-1 in the final quarter for the large win. On Saturday the Farmers did the opposite, bringing in 19 points in the fourth quarter, though it wasn’t enough to beat the Pine Lads’ consistent offensive performance throughout the game.
Edel-Marc Alvarez’s 13 points led the charge for the Farmers on Friday, and Kaina Adolpho was the top scorer on Saturday with 11 points.
Michael Sterner continued his run as a consistent high scorer for the Farmers, bringing in 11 points on Friday and eight on Saturday.
Lanai improved to 6-2, while Molokai dropped to 3-5.
The wins put Lanai in second place behind undefeated Seabury Hall (8-0), the regular season champions, while Molokai is tied with St. Anthony for third place. The Farmers will get a second chance to extend their season during the MIL championships from Feb. 18-21. All five Division II teams will have a chance to qualify for states as Molokai hosts the MIL tournament at the Barn.
