Phyllis Mililani Gomes

Phyllis Mililani Gomes, 82, peacefully passed away at The Queens Medical Center Punchbowl, in Honolulu on December 21, 2025 with her children present. She was born on December 15, 1943 to William (Palapala) Starkey and Lucy English Starkey.

She is survived by her children Raymond (Eliizabeth) Gomes III of Hoʻolehua, Molokai, Aletia (Gerald Jr.) Mahadocon of Hana, Maui, Yolanda (Chad Sr [d] Puaoi of Hoʻolehua, Molokai, and Michael Gomes of Hoʻolehua, Molokai. She has 15 Grandchildren and 17 Great-Grandchildren.

She is also survived by her siblings Billy, Puanani, Bobby, Gerard, Ona Mae, Llewelyn and Darrell.

She’s a graduate of Molokai High School – Class of 1961, and was preceded in death by her late husband of 51 years; Raymond T. Gomes Jr on August 24, 2014.

As a mother, sister and friend to many, she showed her love and compassion to every person she encountered. Her presence alone would light up any room that she entered. 

Her legacy lives on in all the lives she helped shape, the values we’ve been handed down, and the strength she exuded in everything she did. 

A Celebration of Life is Scheduled for Saturday, March 21, 2026 at the Lanikeha Community Center in Hoʻolehua. Visitation from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Service begins at 10:30 a.m.

May you rest in eternal peace Mom and may your loving and gentle spirit be carried forward by those who continue to walk in your footsteps.
