Paddling Starts MIL Season

The Molokai High School Boys and Girls Paddling crews competed in their first regatta of the season last Saturday at Kahului Harbor on Maui. Molokai’s varsity girls crew cam in third place with a time of 5:03:75. The Farmers mixed crew finished in fourth place with a time of 4:49:11. Molokai will travel to Maui again this weekend for another MIL regatta at Kahului Harbor.

Head Coach Stefanie Hubbard is excited to get the paddling season started.

“We’ve got a fairly novice team this year, so this was the first time many of them have raced,” she said. “We faced some windy conditions, but I’m very pleased with how both crews performed.  I think this week’s race has left them with a yearning to push even harder through the rest of this season.”

The MIL Paddling Championships will be held on Saturday Jan. 26 on Maui. The State Championships are on Oahu on Feb. 2.
