Aloha Petroleum News Release
After more than 60 years serving the Molokai community, Rawlins Service has entered a new chapter, with operations transitioning this week to Aloha Petroleum.
The change comes after careful consideration by the Rawlins ʻohana, who have operated the station for generations. While Aloha Petroleum will take over day-to-day operations, the Rawlins family will retain the land lease.
“This was not a quick decision,” said Shirley Rawlins. “We took our time to find the right partner, someone who understands the importance of this station to Molokai and will continue to serve the community the right way.”
Maintaining continuity was a priority for the family, who wanted to ensure the station would remain a reliable resource for residents while adapting to the challenges of operating a small business today.
Aloha Petroleum, a Hawaiʻi-based kamaʻāina company, was selected to carry that responsibility forward.
“Our role is to continue what the Rawlins family has built,” said Heather Namahoe, Vice President of Aloha Petroleum. “We understand how important this station is to the community, and we’re committed to serving Molokai with care.”
The station will continue operating without interruption, including fuel service and convenience offerings. Existing employees have been invited to apply to continue working at the station, with Aloha noting a focus on maintaining local jobs.
While no major changes are planned in the immediate term, Aloha said it intends to make gradual improvements over time, including expanding in-store offerings and exploring opportunities to partner with Molokai farmers and local producers.
“We’re not coming in to make changes,” added Namahoe. “We’re here to listen, learn and build on what’s already here.”
For the Rawlins family, the transition is about ensuring the future of a business that has long been part of daily life on Molokai.
“The most important thing to us is that the station continues to serve the community,” said Rawlins. “That’s what guided this decision.”
As the transition begins, both the Rawlins ʻohana and Aloha Petroleum emphasized a shared goal: preserving a trusted local business while supporting its next generation.
