The ‘Ainapa’a Wrestling Team proudly organized and hosted the “Neva Give Up” Scramble Tournament, which took place at Molokai High School’s gymnasium on Sept. 9.

This event showcased the prowess and determination of a diverse array of wrestlers, from the earliest stages of kindergarten up to 12th grade, and drew participants from the various islands of Oahu, Kauai, Maui, and Molokai.

These dedicated athletes engaged in Folkstyle wrestling, exemplifying the highest standards of sportsmanship and competitive fervor. Matches were executed in a scramble format with no weight cutting with each wrestler receiving approximately three matches with opponents of close age, weight, and experience.

The tournament served as a testament to the commitment and skill of these young athletes, who demonstrated the essence of sportsmanship and tenacity on the mat.

The ‘Ainapa’a Wrestling Team was established in May 2022, when five young, aspiring ladies were motivated to explore their mental and physical strength in the fast-growing sport of wrestling.

With strong parental support, they’ve competed in tournaments across Oahu, Maui, Utah, and Las Vegas, not only refining their skills but also creating opportunities for Molokai’s talented wrestlers.

‘Ainapa’a – meaning the land is our foundation — serves as the organization’s cornerstone. It is rooted in values of growth, knowledge, family, discipline, and positivity, empowering individuals to navigate challenges with grace and fostering confidence both on and off the mat.

‘Ainapa’a hopes to spread their values to young wrestlers and the community all while upholding their unwavering motto: “neva give up!”
