Molokai Water Use and Development Plan

Townscape News Release

Please join us for a Hoʻolauna Meeting, the first community meeting to discuss the Molokai Water Use and Development Plan, on Wednesday, June 9 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The State of Hawaii Water Code requires each county to develop a Water Use and Development Plan and Maui County has chosen to develop separate plans for Molokai, Lanai and Maui to better address the unique needs of each island. The Molokai Water Use and Development Plan will analyze the island’s water resources and project how future water needs will be met.

The Water Use and Development Plan for the island of Molokai is being updated in a collaboration of Townscape, Inc., an environmental and community planning company, and the County of Maui Department of Water Supply, Water Resources and Planning Division.

The goal is to formulate a plan with holistic land and water resources understanding through a community-based planning and partnership process with respect for Native Hawaiian culture, traditions and practices that complies with the State Water Code and provides for sustainable ground and surface water use and development to serve present users and future generations.

Planning objectives will be defined based on public input, the Molokai Community Plan and the State framework for updating the plan.

Due to ongoing health concerns regarding COVID-19, we will be hosting this meeting virtually using the Zoom platform. In this meeting, we would like to introduce the project team, scope of work and project timeline. We would like to open up for discussion and would greatly appreciate hearing from you regarding the critical issues that you would like included in the plan.
