Mixed Results for Basketball

The Molokai High School Boys and Girls Basketball teams traveled to Lanai last weekend to face the Pine Lads and the Pine Lasses. The girls split results, while the boys lost two games.

The Lady Farmers (1-3) earned won on Friday night 53-42. Molokai was led by Camille Ledesma with 18 points, Sydney Rawlins added 16. Lanai (1-5) came back to win on Saturday 39-25. Ledesma led the Lady farmers with seven points.

“Saturday was not our greatest game overall but we did ok and they played hard,” said Head Coach Shane Mokiao. “We did not execute and control the ball and that cost us the game. We are looking forward to our next game at home in The Barn on Jan. 12 and 13 versus Seabury.”

Molokai Boys Basketball (0-2) dropped their first two regular season games at Lanai (2-0) last Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the score was 64-36 and Nighel Calderon led the Pine Lads with 25 points. Kaina Adolpho led the Farmers with 14.

Saturday’s score was 56-16 and Calderon had 12 points and Keison Poaha-Alcon had six point for Molokai.

“I have to give credit to Lanai,” said Molokai Head Coach Nohea Pangkee. “They played well and were well prepared. We need to take care of the ball and work on mental toughness and execution. We have the tools to be successful, but need to learn to bring them together in a game setting.”

The Farmers and the Lady Farmers host Seabury with doubleheader games this Friday and Saturday at The Barn in Ho’olehua. Friday the girls play at 5 p.m. followed by the boys’ game at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Lady Farmers play at 10 a.m. followed by the boys at 12 noon.
