Molokai High School (MHS) teams and athletes were honored at the annual sports banquet on May 21.

With the school year wrapping up, families and coaches gathered at the MHS cafeteria to recognize the accomplishments of this year’s athletes and athletics department, and especially the departing seniors.

This year, the Farmers produced four Maui Interscholastic League champion teams: baseball, eight-man football, boys volleyball and girls softball. Additionally, individual Molokai athletes from wrestling, cross country and track and field qualified for their respective state tournaments.

The boys volleyball team finished highest in the state tournament this year of all MHS teams, earning fourth place.

One of the highlights of their season came as Molokai volleyball faced off against Waialua in a thrilling match that saw the Farmers emerge victorious in three sets in the States Division II Quarterfinals. With scores of 25-21, 25-22, and 25-23, Molokai displayed their resilience and tactical prowess, securing a decisive win and a semifinal berth.

This year was the last season of eight-man football for MHS, as they are moving up into the larger 11-man league in the fall.

“We decided right now is a good time to move up because we want to be able to compete in a state championship,” said Head Coach Mike Kahale. “We’re excited for the upcoming year for the challenge. It’s going to be an exciting season.”

The Farmers will now face off against both Division I and Division II schools, with a berth to the state tournament depending on records against other Division II schools.
