Memorial Scholarship Awarded

Friends of MHMS Foundation News Release

Two Molokai High School graduates have been awarded $2,000 each, a laptop and a Da Kine backpack by the Kukui Malamalama Scholarship program in memory of Kekuhaupio Likua. The scholarship award is administered by the Friends of Molokai High and Middle Schools (MHMS) Foundation. The Kukui Malamalama Scholarships are funded by local residents that are interested in seeing more of our students continue their education after high school.

This year’s recipients are Linaka Akutagawa and Sebastian Naehu-Ramos.
Linaka plans to attend college on the mainland and will major in Human Services to become a social worker. Linaka said she would like to return to Molokai to be a social worker and give back to the community that has helped her and her family over the years.

Sebastian will be attending Pomona College in California to major in Marine Biology and Environmental studies. He hopes to return to Hawaii to help manage and protect Hawaii’s marine environment.
