Lost Band of Brothers

In the Marine Corps 52 years ago, there was a “band of brothers” known as simply “4 ½.” We were in an outfit called MAG13 stationed in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii in 1958 and ’59.

In September of 1958 we went to the island of Molokai, Hawaii to put up a fence for a bombing range to protect the cattle on that island. We went to the town of Kaunakakai and swam off the shores of Papohaku Beach. There were five young men – four big men and one smaller one who is the “1/2” and that’s me. They are Harry Morgan from Paterson, NJ; C.M. Bennett from Birmingham, AL; one named Backus from Liberty, MO; don’t remember the fourth’s first name; and me, Jerome (Jerry) Finn from St. Paul, MN. These men are about 70-years-old now. Morgan and I have been in touch for a few years thanks to him, but we have not seen or head from the others for over 50 years. Hence, the reason for this letter. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. My address is:
