Lions Roar: Vision Van
Molokai Lions Club News Release
Happy New Year from the Molokai Lions Club to the community on Molokai. Thank you for your continued support of our events and projects that are specifically designed to enhance and sometimes even amuse the residents of Molokai.
Sight is the main mission of the Lions Club both on Molokai, in Hawaii and internationally. We in the Molokai Lions Club try very hard to do our part in bringing sight related services to the community. The Project Vision Van’s Big Bus will be on island Feb. 5-10 to do retina eye screening for adults. This service is especially beneficial to those afflicted with diabetes. It’s a screening that should be done yearly. It also detects eye problems such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts and more. This service is free and sponsored in part by Project Vision Van, Molokai Lions Club, Young Brothers, and OHA.
The bus will be available to employees of Monsanto and Mycogen Seed at their work site. It will be on site at Grace Episcopal Church in Ho`olehua and in Kaunakakai Town at three different locations: Kaunakakai School front parking lot, Kalanianaole Hall and Home Pumehana. On board the bus this year will be a trained camera operator as well as volunteers from the Molokai Lions Club and the community. Contact Lion Jackie Cushman if you have any questions at 553-5006 or biljac2008@gmail.com.
The bus will also have the PlusOptix Vision Screener which is specifically designed to detect vision problems in children as young as two months old! This screener will also be available when the school screening is done in early March. If a parent has a child not enrolled in one of the four public elementary schools or doesn’t attend one of the following preschools; Kamehameha, Punana Leo, Kamalii or All Gods Children, it is strongly advised to have that child’s vision checked on the Big Bus with the PlusOptix camera.
The Molokai Lions Club needs you! The club is actively seeking new members. The club is open to all men and women, no age requirement!! The club meets twice a month and tries to have at least one event or project for the communities benefit every month.
