Lions Road: Walk for Sight
Molokai Lions Club News Release
The Molokai Lions Club reached out to the community on Sept. 27 and for the third year in a row, they were rewarded with a good turnout for their Walk for Sight. More than $2500 was raised. Big thanks Molokai!
The 37 walkers included club members, Leos, and community residents. The Molokai High School Leo Club, under the direction of Advisor Julia DeGeorge, came out with 24 members. Way to go Leos! One Leo in particular made 20 laps around town!
More than $2000 of this money will go towards the school vision screening programs that include bringing over the Maui eye doctors and supporting the Retina Vision Van. A separate collection (nearly $400 raised at Walk) is ongoing towards the proposed purchase of a PlusOptix vision screener. This tool is especially geared to discover eye problems in very young children starting at 6 months of age. When discovered early many of these eye abnormalities can be corrected before a child reaches school age.
The club wishes to extend an extra special thank you to its ongoing sponsor, Monsanto, as well as island businesses, Spencer’s Bus Service, GT Enterprises Ltd, Misaki’s, and doctors Dana Takashima and Gregory Davis. You all know who you are that contributed. Thank you from the Molokai Lions Club, and thank you to Lions Linda Mina and Bob Dreyer for their chairmanship of this event.
