Library Plans Summer of Fun

Molokai Public Library will host four free events this month as part of the state library system’s Summer Reading Programs. The series kicks off Monday, June 7 at 2:30 p.m. with a performance by the Hawaii Opera Theater.

On Wednesday, June 16 at 2:30 p.m., the library will present Afro-Cuban, Haitan and Central African Drum and Dance with the Badenyaa African Diaspora Dance Theater.

The group will perform and discuss the cultural importance of music and dance in West and Central Africa, the United States, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Haiti, and Brazil.

On Tuesday, June 22 at 10 a.m., the library with host the Hawaii arts ensemble Huliau: Contemporary Hawaiian Dance Company, which celebrates the artistry and cultural value of Hawaiian dance.

The library’s series concludes on Tuesday, June 29 at 10 a.m. with the program “Be Kind to Animals.”

The library also offers three Summer Reading Programs geared to children, teens and adults that run till July 3. Participants can sign up at any public library.
