The Molokai HS Lady Farmers girls’ volleyball team finished their regular season at 8-4 with two home wins over the St. Anthony Trojans at The Barn last weekend. Friday night was Senior Night and the Farmers won 25-17, 25-15 and 25-15. On Saturday, Molokai won 25-9, 25-13 and 25-10. The Lady Farmers will get ready for the MIL Championships starting on Oct. 18 at Baldwin HS on Maui. Molokai will be the #3 seed in the tournament, and will face either Seabury or Hana in the first round.
Head Coach Mahea Rawlins has her team ready for the postseason, “This weekend games were great and we were able to utilize our middle hitters to lessen the pressure on our outside hitters. We were able to succeed on some of our team goals for the weekend and our seniors had an awesome Senior Night! The underclassmen put on a stunning show for the seniors that consisted of a slideshow, a dance and a song. Our Seniors appreciated and loved it.”
Senior Luhi Pedro has learned a lot playing at Molokai HS, “Coming to the end of my season I feel that our team has improved a lot from the beginning. I’ve seen our defense grow a lot stronger than what we started with. These past four years, I’ve learned that you can never see failure as failure only as a learning experience. I’d like to thank my teammates, coaches and most importantly my parents for supporting me through everything even when I wanted to give up. The major key to success is to stay positive!”
Senior Shaelyn McCutcheon also enjoyed her last home games, “Senior Night was an emotional yet enjoyable experience. Not only were we able to be recognized as senior we also we able to recognize those who supported us through our years as Farmers. It was more than just a game, although we had success against St. Anthony, it was also filled with thoughts and emotions of where do we go next? Not on the volleyball court but in life, we have built friendships that will last a lifetime but the uncertainty of what the future has for us all is pretty scary.”
The 2017 New City Nissan Girls Volleyball Championships will be held on Oahu Oct. 25-28.
