Judo Off to Strong Start

 

The Molokai Boys and Girls Judo team brought home a handful of top three finishes last weekend at the first meet of the Maui Interscholastic League season at Maui High School. The Farmers are coached by Lihau Maioho and Kalei Roberts.

On the girls’ side, Maria Angst finished third at 98 pounds, Hiwa Duvachelle got second at 103, Gabby Aquino at second at 115, Mallory Go got second and Reese Raguindin placed third at 115 pounds(novice), Makani Davis finished third at 122, Kawohi Duvachelle earned first at 129, Cameryn Kahalewai placed third at 139 and Anuhea Davis second at 154. For the boys, Ikua Deponte finished second at 161 pounds.

“It was a good season opening competition and we had a lot of first timers,” said Maioho. “It was a great opportunity for everyone to get the jitters out and now we can focus on honing in our techniques, throws individual styles and strategies.”

Molokai judo athletes will travel to Maui on April 14 for their next meet and the MIL Judo Championships will be on Maui April 28.
