Joseph Sotero Manaba

Joseph “Joe” Sotero Manaba was born to Sotero and Marie Manaba on March 19, 1941 at Shingle’s Memorial Hospital in Ho’olehua, Molokai. On the morning of October 10, 2024, after fulfilling a beautiful 83 years of life, Joe left his Earthly home in Kamiloloa, to be welcomed into his new eternal home with God.

Joe is survived by his wife Dolores “Dodie” Manaba; children, Tania Manaba, Desmund (Christy) Manaba, Tertia Keliiholokai, Dedric (Jersula) Manaba, Deidre Manaba, and Jordan “Koa” (Rebecca) Manaba; 18 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and his sister, Paulette Kortekaas. Joe was preceded in death by his brother Randolph “Randy” Manaba, and his sister, Mildred “Millie” Hayes.

Many will remember Joe for his outstanding work accomplishments which include but are not limited to manager of the Molokai Community Federal Credit Union, bookkeeper at Alu Like, and computer programming teacher at the old MCC building. Joe was also known for his love of baseball. While attending St. Louis High School, he played all four years representing the Crusaders, until he became an alumnus. Later, in his adulthood, Joe played baseball for a local community league, The Mustangs. Selfless and giving, Joe volunteered multiple years as Little League’s treasurer. Most importantly, Joe will be remembered as a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend to many.

A funeral mass for Joseph will be held at St. Damien of Molokai Catholic Church in Kaunakakai, on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024. Visitation will be 8:45 a.m., with a eulogy at 9:45 a.m. and service at 10 a.m.
