Join the Conservation Planning Committee

County of Maui News Release

Applications to fill Molokai, Lanai and East Maui seats on the Conservation Planning Committee are being accepted until Oct. 15 at 4:30 p.m., Councilmember Michael J. Molina, chair of the council’s Government Relations, Ethics and Transparency Committee, announced.

“The Conservation Planning Committee provides recommendations to the mayor, council and county agencies prior to acquiring parcels for land conservation purposes using Open Space, Natural Resources, Cultural Resources and Scenic Views Preservation Funds,” Molina said. “It is important we have representation from community members in our remote locations as lands in those areas are best known by its nearby residents.”

Each appointee to the Molokai, Lanai and East Maui seats must be full-time residents of the community plan area, Molina said. Full-time residents are defined as one who resides in their residency area for at least 90 consecutive days.

More information on responsibilities and membership criteria can be found in Ordinance 5187, which is available online at tinyurl.com/95sxcj27.

Molina said his committee will meet Nov. 2 to consider applicants for the three council-appointed seats.

The application form is available online at tinyurl.com/js3cstfs. Paper copies of the forms are also be available at the council’s district offices. The first page of submitted application forms will be accessible to the public.
