Join Friends of the Library
On Friday evening, Nov. 18, at 5 p.m., the Friends of the Molokai Public Library (FOL) will hold our annual meeting and board election. Join now and have a say in how we support our library and our community. For $1, you can become a lifetime member of the Friends of the Molokai Public Library.
The new library annex/meeting space will open this winter, after many delays. Our library has a long history of working with community groups and hosting traveling events. How can the Friends help make the best use of this new space?
Now is an ideal time to join the Friends of the Library and help decide what role our library plays. Come by the library for an application to join FOL and learn more about current activities. Library hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday from 12 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m., and Friday from 12 to 4 p.m.
We need to elect new FOL board members who can add fresh ideas and new energy. Perhaps a high school representative would connect the next generation with this well established community resource.
Quarterly book sales, the Friends’ main activity these last few years, successfully raised money for library projects. Generously donated books have helped fund the Third Grade Reading Program that began on Oct. 1; re-upholstered our comfortable reading room chairs; and placed a stone boarder around our butterfly garden.
The library is a unique part of our Molokai ‘ohana. We need to continue nurturing it for future generations.
Retiring FOL Secretary,
Ruth Ann Howden
