Darrell Rego, PGA Pro at Ironwood Hills Golf Course, was recently awarded the First Tee of Hawaii Coach of the Year for 2011. The prestigious state-wide award was presented to him on Oahu earlier this year. Approximately 48 young people on Molokai grades five through 11 participated in the program in 2011 and were coached by Rego.

The World Golf Foundation created First Tee as a way to bring golf to young people that otherwise would not be exposed to the game and its positive values. First Tee’s mission is to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.
