ART 113 Intro to Drawing is being offered at University of Hawaii Maui College (UHMC) Molokai campus this fall semester. It is structured as a beginning level class and focused on exploring a variety of media from charcoal to marker, pencil to pastel, ink to conte crayon.  You will discover more techniques and styles for how to draw what you see three dimensionally as well as how to express your feelings, culture and knowledge visually. Most importantly, you will learn how to see as an artist and realize that everyone can learn to draw.

The class is held on Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays are scheduled as assignment and critique day. Thursdays are workdays. Each assignment will help you explore media using the elements and principles of art and increase your skills.

If you are focused towards a college degree, ART 113 meets the UH Manoa Art & Science Core requirements and is transferable to any college institution. The class is structured on key concepts so that instruction can also be individually based and applied for any interested community member with advanced or beginning skills seeking discipline to open a new creative outlook, technique or dedication in their art.

Art can be used for enjoyment, stress release, therapeutic purposes, confidence building and empowerment. Cultivating creativity, aesthetic appreciation and meaning of art is important in our visual culture where images are influential. Art is more than a pretty picture. Art is a way of investigating the way we communicate and interact with our surroundings that uses creative and imaginative ideas and is considered a high level of thinking. Fine arts and crafts can also be a great way to make an income in Hawaii.

Fall semester begins on Aug. 27 and ends Dec 12. New enrollment to the college requires specific registration.
