Home Wins for Boys Volleyball
By Rick Schonely, Sports Reporter
The Molokai High School Boys Volleyball team won its fourth match in a row with wins over Lanai at The Barn last weekend at Ho`olehua. On Friday the Farmers (5-1) lost the first set before defeating the Pine Lads (0-8) 14-25, 25-14, 25-17, and 25-14. Molokai was led by junior Kaina Adolpho with nine kills, sophomore Peter Keliihoomalu added eight kills, senior Michael Sterner had 16 kills and seven aces and senior Kawena Augustiro had 24 assists.
On Saturday, the Farmers won in three sets, 25-16, 25-17, and 25-15. Keliihoomalu had 10 kills, Sterner added seven kills and three aces, junior Keison Poaha Alcon had 22 assists and three kills and senior Lekili Burrows added five kills.
The Farmers now hit the road to Hana this weekend and Head Coach Hale Domingo said he knows it’s tough to play the Dragons at home.
“…For some reason Hana always comes out roaring when they play at home,” he said. “For this season, we live by the saying, “be the best you can be” and that says it all about our team… We just need to be the best Farmers we can be.”
On April 14-15, the team has their last home game against Seabury before heading to Lanai for the Pinelads’ senior night.
Sterner echoed his coaches thoughts.
“Lanai was a really good team,” he said. “They had a scrappy defense and they let us make the mistakes, that’s how they took a set from us on Friday. Going to Hana is going to be tough on the road with that drive and the Hana crowd. It is always hard to play against them but I’m confident we can get the job done.”
The MIL DII Boys Volleyball Tournament is in Hana April 27-29.
