Hawaii Craftsmen Juror’s Talk

Molokai Arts Center News Release

The public is invited to view Molokai artists’ work on August 13 at the Kualapuu Recreation Center, at a special event supported by the Molokai Arts Center in advance of the 2026 Hawaiian Craftsmen Annual State Exhibition. Jonathan Yukio Clark, the juror for the exhibit this year, will give a speech about the exhibit and submissions by local artisans will be on view.
Clark is the Director of Schaefer International Gallery at Maui Arts and Cultural Center. Born and raised on the island of Maui, he has been a member of the MACC’s Gallery Team since 2019, serving as director since 2023. He oversees the Schaefer International Gallery’s exhibits program and curatorial direction with five exhibits per calendar year ranging from local to international in scope.
The Hawai‘i Craftsmen Annual Statewide Exhibition is the organization’s premier juried showcase of traditional and contemporary craft. This year’s exhibition will open on Oahu at the Downtown Art Center Main Gallery in September, and will then travel to the Schaefer International Gallery at Maui Arts and Cultural Center through December.
Emerging and established artists from Molokai were invited to submit up to six completed artworks for jurying in the competition, which is open to residents of Hawai‘i for artworks in clay, fiber, glass, wood, metal, stone, and mixed media.
This is a great opportunity to see what local artists create in order to enter a juried show and to hear from an accomplished artist working in Hawaii.
