Grant Funds Science Ed at MMS

Molokai Middle School was among the schools receiving a total of 10 grants totaling nearly $10,000 were awarded to Hawaii public schools and educational organizations from the Monsanto Hawaii Science Education Fund. The Fund is a program established by The Monsanto Fund to support science education in Hawaii’s public schools.

Recipients included Lahainaluna High School, Maui High School, Molokai Middle School, UH-Maui College, Castle High School, Kaiser High School, Mililani Middle School and Waialua High and Intermediate School.

Funds went to support a variety of STEM-related programs: a plant propagation and growth research project, a Challenger Learning Center Hawaii experience, and equipment and supplies for agricultural sciences biology, chemistry, life science, anatomy and physiology classes. Molokai Middle School will be using grant funds to purchase a digital microscope for a life science lab, audio/visual equipment and educational videos to teach science classes, and supplies for STEM classes and an after-school bridge building club.

Established in 2005, the Monsanto Hawaii Science Education Fund helps provide Hawaii public schools with programs, tools, supplies and equipment to enhance science education in the schools, and encourage today’s students to consider a future career in the sciences. To date, this program has awarded more than $248,000 in grant funds.

Monsanto’s grant program is available on the islands of Oahu, Maui and Molokai where Monsanto employees live and work. Public schools serving students in intermediate grades through college for educational purposes related to science are eligible to apply.
