Girls Volleyball Ends Season Short of States
The Lady Farmers Girls Volleyball team hosted this year’s MIL DII Girls Volleyball Championships last week at The Barn in Ho’olehua. Molokai was the number two seed behind number one Seabury and faced off with number three Hana in a semifinal match last Thursday night. The Lady Dragons beat the Lady Farmers in four sets 20-25, 25-22, 25-21, and 25-22 to advance to Friday’s championship game against Seabury. The Spartans won the regular season title and beat Hana in three sets 25-18, 25-19 and 25-21 to claim the tournament championship and the number one seed from the Maui Interscholastic League in the state tournament.
Molokai (10-4) then faced Hana (12-4) last Saturday for the second berth in the state tournament for the MIL. The Lady Dragons again got the win in three sets 26-24, 25-19 and 25-18 to advance to states.
Head Coach Mahea Rawlins knew it was going to be a battle against Hana.
“In the MIL tourney, we fell short against Hana,” she said. “However, Hana is a great team and we put up a fight. I feel we didn’t play to our best talent, but we have great players all around and I’m very proud of them all.”
The Lady Farmers have a good core of young players, so they will be back next season and Rawlins enjoyed the season with her team.
“This season was a great battle and there were a lot of challenges, but we were able to overcome them throughout the season,” said Rawlins. “Our players had a great bond with each other and the seniors played different roles as leaders of the team which the underclassmen respected.”
The state Volleyball Championships will be held Oct. 24-17.
