Girls Paddling 8th in State

The Girls Canoe Paddling team battled on the water all day at Hilo Bay last Saturday in the state Canoe Paddling Championships. The Lady Farmers made it through preliminaries, then semi-finals, to make it to the finals race. The finished eighth in the state with a time of 4:39.88.

Head Coach Stefani Hubbard was proud of her crew for advancing to the state final.

“The girls put up a tough fight last Saturday kicking and scratching their way to make it to finals,” she said. “Though they fell short of our goal, the fact that they tried their best and left everything they had out on that water, they are still able to walk away feeling accomplished.”

Her team members earned Hubbard’s respect.

“There are many that don’t make it to the final round, and even more that don’t make it to States,” she said. “Getting that far in and of itself is huge.”
