Free Summer Program Starts Soon

Molokai CORAL News Release

For those who have applied to the Molokai CORAL Program as a student or as staff, welcome and get ready for an exciting summer of learning! For those who are seeking a FREE educational opportunity for their child(ren) this summer, it’s not too late to register at alohaproductions.org.

As a reminder, students begin on Tuesday, June 9. The program will run through Friday, July 10. There will be an Orientation on Monday, June 8 at the Molokai High School Cafeteria at 5 p.m. where families can meet the staff and other partners of this year’s program. Program hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Breakfast, lunch and snack will be provided by the program and prepared by Hale Kealoha, Uncle Herbert Hoe and `ohana. Transportation is through current MEO routes - more information will be given at/or prior to Orientation.

Middle and High school students will be placed in one of three Academies of their choice: Film Productions Academy under the direction of Dan Emhoff and Ruhi Moran of Akaku, Academy of Performing Arts under the direction of Ehulani Kane, or Academy of Environmental Science in partnership with the Digital Bus and Na Pua No`eau. Students in High school may also qualify for and receive half a credit towards a High School elective, one college credit or SAT and ACT preparation classes.

Kindergarten to  fifth  graders  will get  a  bit  of all  Academies  through  age-appropriate, Molokai-based lessons. We hope to include swimming lessons for all elementary students as we believe swimming is an important life skill when living on an island. Third through fifth grade students will become bicycle engineers while learning to be resourceful, not wasteful, by rebuilding old bikes into new ones. So, if anyone has any unused, unwanted bikes or bike parts we will happily accept them for the kids in the program.

Staff orientation and training is on Friday, June 5 and Monday, June 8 at Molokai High School from 8 a.m. We are still seeking Support Staff and Student Leader Interns. Applications can be found at alohaproductions.org.
