Four Students Heading to Cross Country States

The Molokai High School Boys and Girls Cross Country teams participated in the Maui Interscholastic League Championships last Saturday at the Kapalua Golf Course on Maui.

The Farmers runner represented their school well, with four runners qualifying for the State Championships this weekend on Kauai.

On the Boys side, Caele Manley qualified as the top Farmer finishing in 18th with a time of 19:53; 19. Rockwell “Kaina” Adolpho also qualified for states and finished 33rd with a time of 20:38; 34.

In 34th, Robert Mawae (20:59) and in 35th, Diego Deponte (21:04) are first alternates and might qualify for states also. Molokai was 2nd in the MIL Division II team scores behind 1st place Seabury.

Head Coach Mahina Hou Ross had his team ready for the race, “The Boys ran a good race and represented Molokai well. States will be next week Saturday at Island School in Lihue, Kauai.”

On the Girls side, Ale‘a Davis qualified, and was the top Lady Farmer finisher on 15th place with a time of 24:58. Also qualifying was Keeya Bicoy with a time of 25:44 and placing 30th. Molokai finished 4th in the team competition.

Head Coach Kabbie Bicoy-Juario was proud of all her runners, “With the start of the race the rain came and our girls had to put it in high gear. Great running by our team and both Coach Isaiah and I couldn’t be any happier of how well you all did. Big accomplishments for our state qualifiers. Ale‘a Davis and Keeya Bicoy now are Kauai-bound this weekend for the state meet!”

The 2017 Honolulu Marathon State Cross Country Championships will be held Saturday, Oct. 28 at Island School behind Kauai Community College in Puhi, Kauai.
