Farmers Face Final Weeks of Seasons

The Molokai High School Boys basketball team finished the regular season with an 8-4 record and in second place behind regular season champ Seabury. They will travel this weekend to Maui for the MIL DII Tournament at Seabury where they will face third place Lanai in a semifinal game on Thursday. Seabury will face Hana in the other semifinal.

Head coach Mike Kahale is getting his team ready for the tournament and is ready for the challenge.

”We are looking forward to MILs this week. Your regular season record really means nothing at this point, everyone makes the playoffs…. We have proven that we can compete and win with anyone in our division, but there has also been some inconsistency where we have not performed at our best. For us, it will really comes down to playing tough defense, minimizing mistakes, and being mentally tough. If we can take care of these things, I think we will be alright.”

The 2016 OC 16 Boys Basketball State Championships will be held on Thursday through Saturday Feb.18-20 and the DII games will be played at Kaimuki and Farrington High Schools and the Stan Sheriff Center.

The Molokai Farmers Swim Team will be headed to the state championships this weekend, which will be held at the Kamehameha Schools Hawaii Campus. The 2016 OC 16 swimming and diving championships will be held on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 12-13. Coach Jess Ford will take eight swimmers, four boys and four girls, to the championships in Hilo.

The Molokai Wrestling Team finished out the regular season on Maui with a round robin tournament at King Kekaulike and they had three wins from the girls and three wins from the boys. For the girls, Alexandria Simon won at 138, Esther Torres Umi at 145, and Cendall Manley at 168. On the boys side, Cale Manley won at 126, Makananui Kaahanui at 220, and Kui Han at 285.

Head coach Randy Manley will take his team to Maui next weekend for the MIL championships. The 2016 Chevron State Wrestling Championships will be held Friday and Saturday, Feb.19-20 at Blaisdell Arena.
