Election Season Timeline

Elections are quickly approaching, representing an opportunity to express your opinions, values and priorities in local, state and national government when you cast your ballot. We’ve assembled a voter’s timeline to help you keep track of this year’s dates and deadlines. For more information, visit elections.hawaii.gov.

Voting in the Primary Election is important because this election is nominates candidates to represent political parties in the General Election. Candidates for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and county contests also appear on the Primary Election ballot. All voters may vote in these contests regardless of the party you affiliate with.
July 12: Deadline to register to vote in the Primary Election
You can register online or in person at a U.S. Post Office, the State Library, most state agencies, Office of Elections, County Clerk’s office and other locations. If you miss the deadline, you can also register on the day you vote by bringing a photo ID and utility bill, bank statement, paycheck or other government issued document showing your name and address.

July 30 to Aug. 9: Early walk-in voting for the Primary Election
At the Mitchell Pauole Center conference room Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed between noon and 1 p.m., and open Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Aug. 4: Deadline to request a mail ballot for the Primary Election.
You must request one online or from the County Clerk’s office. Mail ballots will be mailed to voters 20 days prior to the election.

Aug. 11: Primary Election
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Oct. 9: Deadline to register to vote in the General Election

Oct. 23 to Nov. 3: Early walk-in voting for the General Election
