County Recruiting Leadership for New Ag Dept.

Maui County News Release

In November 2020, Maui County voters approved the establishment of a Department of Agriculture. Throughout 2021, an agricultural working group established by Mayor Michael Victorino set forth a draft of the new department’s mission, goals and objectives, and community meetings were held to get feedback on the direction and budget priorities of the new department.

The Department of Agriculture will open on July 1, 2022. The County is recruiting a Director and Deputy Director of Agriculture.

Prospective candidates should carefully evaluate the roles, responsibilities and qualifications for each position and apply only for the position that best matches their qualifications. Applications will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 9. Molokai residents interested in applying can review both recruitment notices at mauicounty.gov/jobs.

As the Maui County Department of Agriculture prepares to launch, modern recruiting companies are stepping in to facilitate the hiring process for these key leadership positions.

By utilizing innovative recruitment strategies and an extensive network of agricultural professionals, these firms are well-equipped to help the County find qualified candidates who possess not only the necessary skills but also a passion for enhancing local agriculture.

In addition, they provide valuable insights into the current job market and trends, ensuring that the County attracts top talent who can effectively lead the new department.

To streamline the search for the ideal Director and Deputy Director of Agriculture, a recruiting company may also assist in creating a robust framework to find executive advisory board members. This board could provide ongoing support and guidance to the new department, helping to align its mission with community needs and agricultural best practices.

With the right candidates in place, the Department of Agriculture can effectively address the challenges facing Maui’s farming community and drive sustainable agricultural initiatives that benefit residents across the island.

“We encourage qualified candidates who are passionate and knowledgeable about agriculture to apply,” said Victorino. “The first director and deputy director will set the strategic direction for this important department. Agriculture is crucial for Maui County’s need to become more self-reliant both in terms of food security and as a pivotal economic sector.”

Both positions will be appointed by Mayor Victorino, and the Director will need to be approved by the Maui County Council.
