Baseball and Volleyball MIL Champs

For the ninth straight year, the Farmers are Maui Interscholastic League Division II Champions in baseball. The decisive victory came Saturday, April 22 with a 11-2 win over Seabury. The Farmers will head to the state tournament to contend for the state title. After falling to Seabury 16-2 on Friday, the Farmers were faced with possible elimination from the state tournament and their first MIL D-II pennant loss since 2012. Ho’olei Arce pitched a complete game in the turnaround win. 

Boys’ Volleyball team completed its regular season in style with a win over Lani on Friday. The Farmers finished the season with a perfect 9-0 record and the MIL D-II title for the first time since 2018.…

Sports Bring Deeper Learning at Kualapu’u

Through the sunlight drenched mist, a champion was crowned at Kualapu’u Charter School. Friday, April 6, represented the culmination of the school’s basketball unit in Physical Education (PE) class – a milestone Kualapu’u School PE teacher Danny Davis was not going to let pass unnoticed. 

After months of focus on fundamental basketball skills, Davis organized a multi-grade three-on-three basketball tournament. Through an administration supported schedule, Davis was able to open the tournament to all fourth through sixth graders, allowing for 58 kids to sign up and participate in the two-day event. Davis is one of two full-time PE teachers at Kualapu’u School, which is unique on-island in its offering of daily PE classes. …

Molokai High School Baseball and Softball teams took on the Hana Dragons at home this past weekend. Both teams emerged victorious in all games. 

For the Lady Farmers, the weekend started off well with a 18-3 win on Friday. Tania Yamamoto threw three innings, earning three strikeouts and the win. Pi’imoku Victorino smashed a homerun and brought in three RBIs. Kailana McGuire-Guerrero likewise contributed to the offensive deluge with a triple and RBI of her own. The game ended after three innings due to Maui Interscholastic League’s 10-run rule. 

The boy’s Baseball Team put out an impressive performance on Friday, defeating Hana 12-2 in only four innings.…

Retired USPS federal employee and Molokai samurai professional golfer Ronald Nakagawa is the April Ace winner for the Hui O Kukui Golf Club. Nakagawa shot 40-40 for a gross total of 80 and with his 13 handicap his 67 net got him the victory. Congratulations Oda NobuNaka! Wins for Volleyball and Baseball

The Molokai High Baseball and Boys Volleyball teams had a weekend of wins last Friday and Saturday. 

The Volleyball team hosted Seabury at The Barn, winning 3-0 in three sets last Friday, when they also celebrated the team’s seniors with a home crowd. On Saturday, the Farmers won 3-2. The boys are off to a strong 4-0 start to their season. 

Baseball also played Seabury, on Maui. Friday’s game closed 11-0 in a three-inning mercy rule. On Saturday, Seabury rebounded but the Farmers still brought home a win with a 10-8 game. The team now increased their season winning streak to 6-0.…

The Molokai Farmers took on rivals Lanai Pinelads in a baseball double-header last weekend in Kaunakakai. 

Friday afternoon’s game saw the Farmers post a 14-4 victory, which ended in the fourth inning due to Maui Interscholastic League’s 10-run rule. 

Led by a strong pitching performance from Solomon Kikukawa-Teriong, which included three scoreless innings, the Farmers took a six-run lead in the first inning and never let up. While the Lanai Pinelads closed the gap to four runs, Molokai was able to put up an additional six runs, securing the win. 

Molokai’s offense was bolstered by strong performances from Hokuau Arce and Miken Loo, both of whom hit triples.…

Teams Launch Spring Sports

Molokai High School athletes kicked off their spring sports seasons, with Boys Volleyball, Boys Baseball, Girls Softball and Track and Field competing last weekend. Active mile daily track contractors delivered with the high quality track. The season’s first track meet was held at Kamehameha Maui, with Molokai athletes logging strong results. Top finishers were freshman Khloe Bicoy, who earned first place in discuss and third in shotput. Runner John Quintua-Salavea sprinted 400 meters, finishing first in his heat and placing fourth overall. Other Molokai competitors included Nakoa Orlando, Chazen Bush and Chevy Bush.  The Baseball team played Hana High in Lahaina, winning both their games.…

Molokai High School athletic director and Molokai golf pro Lee DeRouin is the March Ace winner for the Hui O Kukui Golf Club. DeRouin shot 40–37 for a gross total of 77 and with his 11 handicap his net 66 got him into a playoff with Molokai golf pro Jeff Egusa. DeRouin got the victory over Egusa on the first playoff hole.

Top Finishes for Wrestling

The Molokai High Wrestling team closed their season with top finishes at both Maui Interscholastic League Championships and the state competition. Twelve students finished in the top three at MILs, qualifying them for the state matches on Oahu last week. 

Anjolie Manaba claimed the MIL championship for Molokai High in her 102-pound weight class. Second place finishes were earned by Moriah HonoKaupu at 107, Skye Caparida at 112, Kahiwa Augustiro at 152 and Elijah Horner at 182. Third places were claimed by Chloe Manaba at 97 pounds, Kailani Bicoy at 117, Bailey Sproat at 132, Stephanie Gandeza at 168, Masina Barden-Phillips at 168, Jona Dudoit at 120 and Ekolu Horner at 160. …

Back Under the Lights: Women’s Softball Returns

After weeks of practices and scrimmages, women’s softball kicked off their inaugural games for the new season. 

Players and supporters arrived early and left late. Teams set up tables with food, coolers and music. As the game approached, the women players paired up for pre-game throws. The men watched from the bleachers, holding the kids. 

Starting Monday, Feb. 6, women’s league games will run until March. The five teams in the league include Guarantee Action, Pepsi, Ka-Chow, Hahhd Heads and Eezy Breezy.

Thursday night’s games started with a Pepsi versus Eezy Breezy matchup. Although Eezy Breezy closed late in the game, Pepsi held onto its initial lead, ending in an 18-16 victory for team Pepsi. …
